Summary

We have developed a system for the real-time analysis of the depth- and/or motion coordinates of objects in a video-scene. (patent pending). The system is based on the pixel-wise (causal) analysis of the incoming data from a stereoscopic image pair. Therefore, the results are obtained at the output almost without a delay (less than 10 microseconds). Current VLSI technology allows to implement this algorithm such that a performance limit of 100 Hz for a regular CCD-based data acquisition system (e.g., CCD-cameras) at full resolution is obtained.
